"Butcher box will substitute products at…"
Butcher box will substitute products at will and charge you for them. I was charged $200 over my order for products I didn’t order. All ok according to their “substitution policy”. When I complained, I was basically told ts. Stay away!!

"don’t buy from this company"
second month of having meat delivered. i was expecting the delivery on may 2 but instead received an email telling me my box would be delivered the 3-6. i was leaving town on the 5th so i called to have the delivery date reset to the following week. i was told this was impossible because of the order status. knowing how shipping works o asked if they could locate the box , upc , and put it on hold. was told impossible. they asked if anyone could be available to accept the delivery. i said i didn’t have time as i was going out of town. she politely told me if the package comes while i’m gone uk not send it back but call for options. options like letting meat sit out in the southern california sun for 4 days ? o asked to cancel my subscription which she did instantly. i assumed this would cancel the transaction and then the box would not be sent. last night i got an email saying my box would be delivered today. i’m out of town. today i got an email stating it was delivered. so now it’s going to sit outside for a few days until i can get home from my trip. this customer service is not good. not flexible enough. we all know things can be stopped if done one would get off their chair and go the extra mile but let meat rot and call for options ? what is sustainable about that. does grass fed meat not rot ? thank god o cancelled. now o have to deal with a credit card company to refuse the charge.

"This sounds like a good idea, but it's not"
This sounds like a good idea, however, the cuts are overpriced for the amount that they send. Items are often missing, causing a great deal of inconvenience in getting a refund and driving to the store to replace the items. You are better off going to the grocery store and buying what you need.

"MUCH Better This Time. Thank you!"
This is a follow up to my original review posted a few months ago. I've now had the opportunity to sample all of the meats and experience their service.

After my 1st review it was questionable as to whether or not I would be reordering or canceling and the reasons are articulated there so I will not rehash them. The reason I gave Butcherbox a second chance was because their service reps bent over backwards trying to deal with my "concerns". Their flexibility leaves something to be deisred but within their limitations I felt generally pleased with all but one of four interactions with them.

Lets stick to the products and whether or not it makes sense to supplement our dietary needs using this company. My weighted answer is "yes", especially when you decide which products do not fit your tastes. I for one was very disappointed in the Strip Steaks and having recieved two FREE steaks to overcome my concern with too much grizzle didn't thrill me. That relates to the flexibility issue since a simple substitution would have been, IMHO, in order.

The meats were otherwise good and of fair, not great, value. It didn't help BB to be up against a local sale where I was able to put back (10) beautiful porterhouse steaks for 50% off. So, comparing that isn't very fair.

I was taken back by one STUPID reps accusation to "STOP SHOUTING"! It was ridiculous since I was calm, typing, NOT speaking, and asking why a $10 credit had not been applied "as promised. This is the level of frustration these people are under after all of the negative reviews that my daughter pointed me towards AFTER I had made my 1st order.

The food supply channels are getting more and more difficult for reasons we will not discuss here. BB is NOT the problem but I'm sure they have suffered for the same reasons we as consumers have. What I would suggest is to give them a try BUT limit your purchases so that you can take advantage of local sales as they arise. The biggest advantage to BB is the HEALTHIER meats from grass raised and finished beef and that is something we should support.

My 4 star rating is fair and I would have given them a 5 star this time if that idiot hadn't acted in such a ridiculous manner. For now I will stick to my 60-day reorder schedule, order the meats I prefer, and take advantage of the nice specials they offer regulary. The shipments come in quickly after each order is placed and are sealed extremely well to prevent the food from thawing.

Too bad they can't just keep a year of reviews at a time instead of carrying those negative ones around their necks like a boat anchor.

"Never got a box without an issue"
Never got a box without an issue. It was either all defrosted or packages open. Cuatner service was never a help. Basically said to just refreeze it, not good to do. For the open packages they said still safe just repackage. Also not good.

"My first delivery was perfect and I was…"
My first delivery was perfect and I was very satisfied with the product. My second delivery arrived fully thawed. Getting on the Butcher Box website to report the thawed product it appears a common issue and offers to send a replacement. Three weeks out and still no replacement box but shows my next scheduled delivery for May. I have since cancelled my subscription.

"Poor quality control DO NOT BUY"
Poor quality control, though pleasant customer service.

The first order shipped and was marked as delivered, but never arrived. ButcherBox, to their credit immediately sent out a replacement box. However, this replacement box arrived with a number torn packaging and a number of items leaking. As we're dealing with raw meat I am not inclined to take a risk that the items were safe to consume, so I felt obligated to toss all uncooked meat from the package, as I could not be certain of their safety.

I was told by the customer service team that the temperature the items were kept at would prevent anything from getting inside, but I am not convinced and would rather err on the side of safety when it comes to my food. For example, they assumed it was torn during shipping, but I could not be certain that is the case as it could have been torn prior to packaging.

As of the time of writing this I have not received a refund, though the customer service representative has been working on my behalf to acquire one. I've been told this must go to a special team that then takes 24 hours or longer to respond, and that I will receive a response via email.

If you're looking for a pleasant and inevitable customer service experience, this is the place for you. If you're looking for the actual product as described, go elsewhere...

"DO NOT BUY! Making me sick"
DO NOT BUY! NUMEROUS ITEMS FROM MY SHIPMENT ARE MAKING ME SICK!

I received my box fully frozen and immediately stored the meats in my freezer. All of the meats I've cooked so far have made me sick:

Chicken Breasts
Boneless Skinless Thighs
Chicken Nuggets
Pork Tenderloin

I imagine there is an issue at their processing facility. I'm throwing away the remainder of my order and am hopeful for a refund.

"Mediocre"
They have sales, but if you don't have it shipped right away, even if it isn't a "must ship before" item, they will remove the items from your cart without informing you. Sometimes the individual meat packages have been sliced with a utility blade so they may be contaminated.

"Great Quality and Convenience"
I have received a monthly box from Butcher Box for over a year now and have had no issues. I got in on a promotion of free ground beef with each box and that is a nice bonus. I find the quality of the meat to be very good and the delivery is usually on time. I like the convenience of not having to go to the grocery store to try and find the meat I want. I will continue my subscription as long as it is a positive experience.

"New Customer; Poor Customer Service"
I am a new customer, and while the meat we received with our first shipment was packaged extremely well with high quality and delicious meat, we had a significant issue with customer service when a problem occurred with our 2nd shipment.

Although every single email arrived from the company with promotions, we never received the alert notification email a few days before our next box. Since life gets busy, we overlooked the shipment date. As a result, we weren't able to change our meats and are now receiving an exact duplicate of our last box. Other than product damaged or thawed in shipping, there is no return or refund option available. I realize the perishable nature of the meat requires this, but we still have 3 meat selections we haven't used from our first box, and now we'll have doubles of those!

Although Scott was professional, he stuck straight to a script and his response lacked any genuine sense of compassion. The attitude that came across in the emails from him basically said, "Tough luck!" as there was no attempt to assist or offer a resolution other than me setting my own reminders so this doesn't happen again. Yes, I agree with being proactive and personal responsibility, but as a new customer (only 2nd box this week) and for the money I'm paying, I expected much more.

I reached out first thing Monday morning, and my box didn't ship until late Tuesday night, so there was plenty of time to change out the meats as requested. Telling me nothing can be done and making no attempt to make the situation better (discount on next box or partial refund, etc.) is poor customer service. When there are other companies providing high quality meat AND top-notch customer service for about the same prices, I am NOT impressed.

Yes, I only communicated with 1 person, so he's the only interaction on which I can base my opinion, but these are still my impressions. ButcherBox might offer excellent product, but if customer service is poor, it taints the entire operation.

"Dirty packaging and old brown meat."
The steaks were old and brown. The bag of chicken tenders looked as if they were laying on a dirty floor. That was a real turn off for my wife and I. We felt that ButchersBox must be a dirty place and immediately terminated our subscription after just one delivery. I have photos.

I was contacted from customer support and was told how sorry they were and they were going to send out fresh order. Never happened and we never heard another word. We weren't looking for compensation anyway.
Just learned an expensive lesson and we are moving on.

I would not recommend this place to no one based solely on my first delivery. Dirty and old steaks.

Update. ButchersBox did send me a replacement order.
I will say that it was a very nice jester. They still need to look into old meat issue. Quality control are not doing their jobs correctly. My replacement steaks looked really nice but still two were brownish. Overall, I am satisfied.

"Nasty product. The WORST customer service!"
Absolutely the worst customer service ever. When I called they were super rude and didn't care at all. They still charged me the full price for a defective product. Do not order the mushy, squishy tasteless chicken. I had to throw it all away. Read all the reviews about this awful company!

"Cancel Confirmation Email Needed"
The product is inconsistent. Some cuts are gamey and tough while others are okay. I anticipated grass-fed beef taste and texture would be different. But gamey?
I canceled my subscription but noticed that I didn't receive a confirmation email. I then received another shipment. I went through the same process of trying to cancel and it's not easy. The second time was easier because I knew what to do. Finally, I did receive a confirmation email. I double checked my account to verify it was closed.
